A
museum tells
the history of this interesting little town. It lies on the periphery
of the Richtersveld National Park and guided
trails into the Richtersveld can be arranged from here.
The “Plantasie”
is a community run campsite that provides an interesting traditional
alternative to camping. With an hours notice, the friendly locals
can erect a “Matjies Hut”. Roomy and cool, it provides protection
from the heat of the day and comforting shelter at night.
Fresh
provisions are hard to come by in this part of the world so bring
all your supplies with you or give the town a few days notice and
they will provide you with traditional homemade meals. Braai and
basic ablution facilities are available at the campsite, but water
may be a problem, so bring along water containers.
The beautiful
old church, erected in 1893,
will soon be declared as a national monument.
