The
small town of Lekkersing lies nestled in the hills of the Richtersveld.
The local community
are developing a campsite at “Koerdap”,
10km outside of the town. Here you can explore the interesting countryside
in the cool mornings, relax under shady
trees during the heat of the day and enjoy the sunset from
the surrounding hills.
As yet, there
are no ablution facilities at the campsite and no running water,
but Lekkersing is nearby and basic provisions and fresh water can
be obtained from here.
 There
is a quartzite mine where flagstones
and tombstones are cut, in the area. Skurwehoog
caves are also 30km from Lekkersing on the road to Kuboes.
No ablution facilities or drinking water is available there.
Kalkfontein
is situated halfway between Lekkersing and Eksteensfontein. Many
different species of imported caged birds can be seen,as well as
wild encamped Ostriches. Horse rides can be arranged.
If you're interested
in local craft, ask about “Rusoord”,
a community workgroup that make “riempie” chairs, “veld skoene”,
matjieshuts, dresses and “kappies”.
